Welcome to HARRISON COUNTY VETERANS SERVICES

The Harrison County Veterans Service Office is proud to help veterans and their families that live in Harrison County. We can help file V.A. claims for service connected disabilities or benefits earned through their service. You can stop in our office to get a free veterans photo ID card and contact us for transportation to V.A. facilities in both Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Financial assistance is available to Harrison County Veterans who meet income qualifications. We can also help immediate family members with costs of a nursing home for a veteran or a surviving spouse of a veteran.


We offer counseling with Veterans and/or Dependents to determine eligibility for benefits from the department of Veterans Affairs (DVA). Proof of military service such as a DD-214 or separation from military document (original or certified copy) is required for all potential benefits. Examples of services offered include the following:

  • Assistance in obtaining proof of military service (DD Form 214) if necessary
  • Assistance with obtaining medals, badges, commendations, decorations, citations and campaign ribbons awarded with proof of entitlement
  • Enrollment in VA Healthcare
  • Emergency financial assistance (Income requirements & residency in the county for the last 3 consecutive months is required )
  • Veteran ID Cards & Replacement Dog Tags
  • Assistance with filing for Iraq/Afghanistan Burn Pit Exposure, Agent Orange and Camp LeJeune Water Claims
  • Application for DVA compensation (for service-connected disabilities)
  • DVA pension for wartime veterans and/or dependents and survivors with total non-service connected disabilities
  • DVA education benefits for veterans and/or certain dependents or survivors
  • Application for state of Ohio education benefits available for dependent or surviving children of veterans who served during wartime or living wartime veterans who received DVA compensation at a 60% rate or higher or who received DVA non-service connected disability pension and who choose to attend an Ohio institution – Ohio residency a Requirement
  • Applications for DVA financial assistance with costs associated with the death and burial of a veteran
  • Applications for Grave Markers and Flags for deceased veterans
  • Transportation to and from VAOPC’s in New Philadelphia, Canton, Akron, Cleveland and Pittsburgh, PA
